Accessibility
Our accessibility statement for this website — what we have built in, where we know we fall short, and how to tell us about a problem.
Last updated: 2 November 2026
Our commitment
The School Bag Company wants as many people as possible to be able to use this website. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at Level AA, and we treat a reported accessibility failure as a fault to be fixed, not as a feature request.
What we have built in
- A "skip to main content" link as the first item on every page.
- Semantic HTML landmarks — header, navigation, main and footer — so screen reader users can move between regions.
- A single, logical heading order on every page, with one H1 per page.
- Text alternatives on meaningful images; decorative images are marked so that assistive technology ignores them.
- Labels on every form field, with errors described in text next to the field rather than by colour alone.
- Visible keyboard focus on every interactive element, and a page that can be operated entirely by keyboard — including the basket, personalisation options and checkout.
- Text and background colour combinations chosen to meet the 4.5:1 contrast minimum for body text and 3:1 for large text and interface components.
- Text that reflows without horizontal scrolling down to 320 pixels wide, and that can be resized to 200% without loss of content or function.
- No content that flashes, auto-plays or moves without the user starting it.
- Status messages — "added to basket", "order placed" — announced to assistive technology through live regions.
Where we know we fall short
We are being specific rather than claiming full conformance:
- Some product photography carries text baked into the image; that text is repeated in the description but is not selectable or resizable within the image itself.
- Product specification tables are wide and, on a narrow screen, scroll horizontally within their own container. This is a known compromise against reflowing table data into a layout that is harder to compare.
- We have not yet completed a full audit with a screen reader across every one of the twenty-three product pages. We have tested a representative sample of each page type.
- The site relies on JavaScript for adding items to the basket and for submitting the checkout and contact forms. Both forms degrade to a standard form submission if a request fails, but with JavaScript disabled entirely the experience is reduced.
Preparation of this statement
This statement was prepared on 2 November 2026. It is based on our own testing of a representative sample of pages — the home page, a category listing, a product page, the basket, the checkout and a content page — using keyboard-only navigation, browser zoom to 200%, and automated contrast and markup checks. It has not been verified by an independent third party.
How to tell us about a problem
If you find something on this website you cannot use, or you need information from it in another format — large print, plain text or a read-aloud version — email [email protected]. Please tell us the page address and what happened. We aim to reply within one working day during Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, and to provide the information you asked for within five working days.
If you are not happy with our response
Email us again marking the message "Accessibility complaint" and it will be treated under our complaints procedure. If you are in the United Kingdom and remain dissatisfied, the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) can advise you on your rights under the Equality Act 2010.
Ordering by other means
If this website does not work for you for any reason, you can place an order by email. Send us the model or a description of what you need, the quantity, any personalisation, and a delivery address, and we will confirm the price and take it from there. Email [email protected].
